Wedding Song Playlist, Part 2

Love is in the air. This year, there are three weddings that are happening just in my church group. Another one is planned for January 2027. Even with all the uncertainty and political tensions around the world, romance is alive and well.

I am hopelessly romantic, notwithstanding my own not-ever-happily after. Could be because I watch too many rom-com K-dramas, you think?

Weddings are feel-good events, the atmosphere imbued with joy and celebration, with a contagious sense of magic that guests share with the newly married couple.

The wedding playlist sets the tone for the reception. And here’s where the generational divide may be apparent. The wedding couples are millennials and Gen Z, so their musical tastes may not be as “sophisticated” and “tasteful” as those of the Baby Boomers (wink, wink, just kidding). The sappy, sentimental love songs of my generation may be scoffed at by these young ones, but the classics hit the heartstrings.

It may be a different playlist for the formal entry of the wedding party. The Grand Entrance/Reception Introduction/Grand March is a high-energy moment to kick off the celebration after cocktail hour. This is where the wedding party may opt for individual music as they come in, with the bridesmaids and groomsmen often picking something mainstream and crazy as they strike their poses. Even the sponsors get creative when they march in, but thankfully, I have not heard of anyone dancing to “Hala Bira” yet (horrors!). I would suggest “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang or “I Feel Good (I Got You)” by James Brown as fun intro music.

The music playlist below may be used during hors d'oeuvres at the cocktail hour, for the first dance, and for the romantic slideshow montage of the couple presented at the reception. We don’t do dance music in my church group, but we do still have fun with some musical presentations from the brave and the fearless. Many years ago, when we were young and shameless, my friends and I used to volunteer to sing at weddings. One time, we sang Rey Valera’s “Kahit Maputi na nag Buhok Ko,” which I am proud to say was much-talked-about for months after.

RISK IT ALL

A song by Bruno Mars from his 2026 album The Romantic. It is a love song, set in a Mexican chapel with a Latin vibe and the vibrant sounds of a mariachi band. It is about his unconditional commitment to “risk it all” for their love.

Say you want the moon

Watch me learn to fly

Ain't no mountain you could point to

I wouldn't climb

It's crazy, but it's true

There's nothing I won't do

I'd risk it all for you

HOW DID YOU KNOW?

This OPM (original Pilipino music) was composed by Cecile Azarcon and sung by Chiqui Pineda. The song was the official theme song for the 2006 Filipino movie All My Life, sung by Gary Valenciano.

How did you know

I needed someone like you in my life?

That there's an empty space in my heart?

You came at the right time in my life

GROW OLD WITH ME

One of the final songs written by John Lennon and recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter in 1995 as part of the Lennon tribute album Working Class Hero: A Tribute to John Lennon.

Grow old along with me

The best is yet to be

When our time has come

We will be as one

MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE

Bob Dylan composed this song, which has been covered by 450 artists, including Adele, Michael Bolton, Neil Diamond, Boy George, Billy Joel, Teddy Swims, Garth Brooks, Shane Filan, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Bublé, and Pink.

When the rain is blowing in your face

And the whole world is on your case

I could offer you a warm embrace

To make you feel my love

IKAW

The song "Ikaw," popularized by Regine Velasquez, was composed by Louie Ocampo and George Canseco, and also covered by Sharon Cuneta and Jessica Sanchez. This is a different song from the one Yeng Constantino wrote.

Ikaw ang bigay ng Maykapal

Tugon sa aking dasal

Upang sa lahat ng panahon

Bawat pagkakataon

Ang ibigin ko'y ikaw

English:

You are the gift from God above

The answer to my prayer

The reason I have so I can live

For all seasons I will give

All my love to only you

UNTIL I FOUND YOU

Written and sung by American singer-songwriter Stephen Sanchez. "Georgia" refers to his girlfriend at the time, so it would be best to replace it with the bride’s name, of course.

I would never fall in love again until I found her

I said, "I would never fall unless it's you I fall into"

I was lost within the darkness, but then I found her

I found you

TILL THERE WAS YOU

This is a  show tune written by Meredith Willson for the musical “The Music Man” and was  later covered by the Beatles.

There were bells on a hill

But I never heard them ringing

No I never heard them at all

Till there was you

A LOVE TO LAST A LIFETIME

A great love song from one of the Philippines' icon singer/songwriter Jose Mari Chan.

There's only one dream

And that's to love you my love

With a love to last a lifetime

KAHIT MAPUTI NA ANG BUHOK KO

One of the most enduring OPM love songs by Rey Valera, a promise to love someone forever, even if their hair turns white.

Kung tayo ay matanda na, sana'y 'di tayo magbago

Kailanman, nasaan ma'y ito ang pangarap ko

Makuha mo pa kayang ako'y hagkan at yakapin

Mmm, hanggang pagtanda natin?

Nagtatanong lang sa 'yo, ako pa kaya'y ibigin mo

Kung maputi na ang buhok ko?

If we're already old

I hope we won't change

Whenever, wherever, this is my only dream

Will you even be able to

Hug and embrace me, ooh

Until we've grown old

I'm just asking you

Will you still love me

If my hair is already white?

Oops, on second thought, maybe it wasn't a great idea.
